Traversing time and continents WATCHERS OF THE SKY is a feature-length documentary that examines genocide, and the world’s response, from a variety of angles – historical, psychological, political, legal, and experiential – by mixing cinéma vérité footage with interviews and animation. Inspired by Samantha Power’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, "A Problem From Hell," director Edet Belzberg interweaves the stories of four exceptional modern humanitarians with the journey of Raphael Lemkin, the international lawyer who coined the term 'genocide' and almost single-handedly pushed through the Genocide Convention at the United Nations. By capturing the stories of people who are trying to end the international community’s political paralysis, and those who are caught in the crossfire of its ambivalence, the film sheds stark light on the incessant danger of mass atrocities in the modern world. It is these people's hopes, disappointments, and anger that fuel WATCHERS OF THE SKY to challenge the axiom that nothing can be done to end the cycle of violence.
