Orgasm Inc. had an explosive release at the 2009 Hot Docs Film Festival and since that time has been stimulating audiences around the globe. It has won awards and screened at 50 film festivals such as IDFA, IFF Boston, The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and the Starz Denver Film Festival. It has been broadcasts on television in many countries including Canada, France, Italy, Finland, Israel, Japan, and Brazil. In the USA, Orgasm Inc. is coming soon to a theater near you. It was recently picked up by First Run Features, which will release the movie in cinemas this winter.
Along with using these traditional avenues for distribution, Orgasm Inc. has also been used to influence the public sphere through a targeted outreach campaign to the media. The pharmaceutical industry hired major PR firms to try and convince millions of women that they had female sexual dysfunction when in fact many of them were perfectly healthy. Working with publicist Adam Segal, Orgasm Inc. has been used to educate journalists about the real story behind the disease and the purported cures. Articles about the movie and quotes from director Liz Canner have appeared internationally in hundreds of articles and blogs and dozens of TV shows and radio programs such as ABC News, Vogue, Newsweek, The Times of London, The Wall Street Journal, The BBC World Service, Public Radio, The LA Times, The Guardian, Cosmopolitan South Africa, Glamour Brazil, etc. This media attention has helped to raise serious questions about the pharmaceutical industries involvement with creating and marketing diseases. It has also protected millions of women from being misled into believing that they have FSD and they need to be treated with a drug (that could potentially harm them).
